Self-consumption

Stop exporting your solar surplus only to buy it back in the evening

TED continuously measures what the house imports or exports, then charges or discharges your batteries to stay as close as possible to the target you choose, for example 0 W.

Sounds familiar?

  • Your meter runs backwards at noon while your batteries are not full.
  • In the evening the house imports while the batteries are still charged.
  • Your self-consumption rate stalls despite adding batteries.

Why it is hard

Self-consumption depends on how fast and how accurately you regulate: you have to follow the house's consumption continuously, and it changes with every appliance switched on.

With several batteries it is even trickier: power has to be shared without exceeding each one's limits, and without them fighting each other.

What TED does

Continuous regulation

Every few seconds: meter reading, decision (charge, discharge or standby), then setpoints sent to the inverters.

Custom target band

Choose the grid power you aim for and its tolerance, with winter, default and summer profiles.

Every watt in the right place

Surplus goes first to the emptiest batteries; the house draws first from the fullest.

Dashboard

Real-time view, daily charts and energy flows: you see what each battery absorbed and returned.

Getting it running

  1. 1

Connect your meter to Home Assistant

A grid power sensor (import and export), or a Shelly in your consumer unit.

  2. 2

    Add your batteries in TED

As controlled inverters, with their maximum power.

  3. 3

    Switch to autonomous mode

And choose your target band, for example around 0 W.

Frequently asked questions

Does TED guarantee zero export?

TED aims for the band you choose and reacts within seconds. When all batteries are full or at their maximum power, the remaining surplus goes to the grid (or to loads you switch on with automations).

What happens when the batteries are empty?

They stop at their minimum level and the house imports as usual. In winter you can recharge them during off-peak hours with scheduled charging.
